The historic city of Murcia is not far and here there are a couple of good shopping malls. If you want history, nearby Rojales and Orihuela have old towns and cave houses. Torrevieja is still very Spanish and has wonderful beaches and promenade, just some of the interesting places to explore. Just 15 to 20 minutes to Murcia airport it is so easy for holiday makers to travel to. Or if you are living here full time not long to get to the airport to visit relatives in the UK or other European countries.
