In which part of Spain is Moraira?
Moraira, part of the Teulada-Moraira municipality in the province of Alicante within the Comunidad Valenciana, is a small town on the Costa Blanca’s Mediterranean coast. Nestled between Javea/Xàbia to the north, Calpe to the south and hills to the west, it is easily accessible from both Alicante (94km) and Valencia (128km) airports.
What is Moraira like?
Although only a small town with a population of some 10,000, the former fishing village of Moraira has a lot to offer. Its thriving fish market is held in high esteem, and its numerous restaurants offer a wide variety of international cuisine. There are several very select boutiques and a yacht club that organises regattas and offers sailing courses in the summer.
The coast of Moraira boasts both sandy beaches and rocky coves. The area has a very stable Mediterranean climate and enjoys around 300 days of sunshine a year with average summer highs of 26-30ºC. Its crystal-clear waters, which stay around the 25ºC mark during the summer months, make it a popular place for kayaking, snorkelling and scuba diving.
For keen walkers, the Ruta de los Miradores del Litoral coastal footpath from Playa del Portet to Calle Tuñez near Cap Blanc conservation area offers several panoramic viewpoints. For those keen to venture further on foot, there are many longer coastal and hillside hiking trails to be enjoyed in the area.
The terraced vineyards on the surrounding Cap d’Or hillsides, which provide protection from the elements in the winter, are famous for their Muscatel grapes, which have been used in wine making for centuries. There is a fine selection of villas and country houses for sale in these popular foothills.
For those who prefer to be within walking distance of town, buyers can choose from the many spacious villas with private pools, traditional townhouses and elegant beachfront apartments for sale.
