The renovation has recovered the original character of the building, with the aim of rigorously respecting all the elements that defined this stately early 20th-century property. To achieve this, the architects undertook an exhaustive process of cataloguing and redrawing, which led them, for example, to discover that the original colour of the entrance hall was green.

All the details of the building have been preserved: the stucco work, metal elements, stained glass windows, and the large skylight on the roof, which provides natural light throughout the spaces. In the entrance hall, a staircase welcomes you, featuring a wrought-iron handrail decorated with flowers. As these floral details were very delicate and some had deteriorated over time, the architects chose to reproduce them in order to perfectly replicate the original staircase.

Inside the apartments, the hydraulic tile floors and most of the ceilings with plasterwork decoration have been preserved, as well as the façade bay windows and the interior courtyard galleries. Casa Dolors Alesan, together with the neighbouring Palau Macaya by architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, is one of the most outstanding buildings along Passeig de Sant Joan in Barcelona.

Commissioned by Dolors Alesan in 1902 and designed by architect Enric Fatjó i Torras, the building forms part of Barcelona’s Architectural Heritage.
