Description
Farm with a bioclimatic house and stables in a bucolic setting near Sigüenza
In a silent valley surrounded by nature, such as a stream, springs, woodland, we built in 2011 with the utmost criterion of sustainability, taking care of aesthetics from the idea of living comfortably.
The place is close to Sigüenza, about an hour and a half by car from Madrid airport.
The area is ideal for horseback rides, getting lost in the mountains with its crystal-clear air, and where you can still appreciate starlight due to low pollution.
The stables are designed for a small herd of horses that can live as naturally as possible according to their needs, with large spaces such as paddocks and several pastures separated by wooden sheds and the stream running through the middle.
A large hayloft and a comfortable system for feeding, heated automatic waterers, a tack/kiln room, a classical dressage arena and a ground-level dressage arena make it perfect for the development of Equestrianism.
In this same complex there is an integrated studio with a kitchen, sink, bathroom and shower.
The structure of all buildings is made of solid laminated wood.
The bioclimatic house with a green roof and a system that takes advantage of heat as best as possible, thanks to its good orientation and conscious insulation, ensures that in winter it stays warm at low cost and in summer remains cool, aided by large windows with double glazing facing the river and the poplars.
Heating is pellet from Austria with an integrated solar panel system to heat water; in the main house underfloor heating and in the studio radiators. Additionally, in the main house there is an independent stove from a German system called Kachelofen, fuelled by wood.
The stables have seen little modification, although there are currently two horses grazing in the pastures.
The dressage arenas, for example, are not cleaned, but beneath the sand there is a drainage of chipped tiles so puddles do not form. To restore professional use, the plan is to remove the herbs and put sand back on top.
The use of this entire complex is undoubtedly as a large refuge with its clean spring waters somewhat hidden from civilization while still having convenient access.
Being able to keep the house warm with a single load of (12 kg) of firewood per day, with the Kachelofen, without relying on electricity, and the possibility of becoming autonomous thanks to its pre-installation of solar panels in these times provides great peace of mind.
The complex is designed for coaching with horses, equine therapy, giving a healing environment for humans as well as animals. It could even host a small veterinary clinic.
We have planted many trees such as birches, a ginkgo, a cypress, walnuts, limes, fruit trees, beeches.
In addition to the pond beside the house, we have created a slightly larger lagoon for wildlife.
The septic tank is calculated for 12 people.
In the “little woods” of the poplars we have built a tiny house (not shown on the plans), which has a magical touch.
