Nearly half Alicante jail inmates are immigrants

Alicante's Fontcalent prison has more than the national average of foreign internees according to a recent report. Of the 960 prisoners inside Fontcalent, 46.6% are foreigners of some fifty nationalities, whilst the national average for foreign prisoners is 28%.
The other jails in the Valencian Community have less than the national average: Picassent (24.3%0, Castellon (26.9%) and Villena with 16.4%.
By far the largest number of inmates at Fontcalent comes from North Africa, whilst the latest information from the Alicante attorney general's office is that for the first time, there are three Chinese inmates inside Fontcalent, all three being found guilty of extortion.
