65 illegal immigrants land in Fuerteventura
65 illegal immigrants from Africa landed on the rocky Caracol Beach, Tuineje, today, and were immediately taken into police custody. 5 of the immigrants had to be airlifted from the beach and taken to hospital because they had injured themselves on the rocks and were suffering from hypothermia. The 65 immigrants are all adult males and almost all needed help making their way from the beach to the awaiting police vehicles.

The 2 boats carrying the passengers were spotted just after 2pm approaching the Fuerteventura coastline. One of the boat owners abandoned his craft and tried to make his escape in the other, but, after a chase, a police boat apprehended and arrested both owners, some 12 miles from the coast.

The 65 illegals will be taken to Puerto del Rosario for extradition by the National Police under the terms of the "Foreigner´s Act" (Ley de Extranjería). The 2 boat owners, both from Morroco, will be charged for breaching the rights of foreign citizens.
