A man who based his election campaign on a rather dubious ability to imititate Elvis Presley has been elected to stand on Reus town council.
It remains to be seen whether Ariel Santamaría, who represents the Reus Independent Coordination (CORI) party, will fulfil his manifesto pledge to wear his Elvis costume to all council meetings.
Mr Santamaría's proposals include: cultivating marihuana in all the town's green zones, and obliging the Local Police to carry a GPS device so that they can be easily found in case someone needs a light for their joint.
Mr Santamaría's campaign, which included an elaborate website, was orchestrated by his media consultant, who accompanied him at all times dressed as a pirate, complete with eye patch.
