The body of 23 year old Spanish student, Pablo Barbadillo Maestre (photo), who was last seen alive in Pacal Guacamayo (Madre de Dios, Peru) on Sunday, April 13th, has been found in the Peruvian jungle. The well-preserved corpse displayed no obvious signs of violence, except for numerous animal and insect bites that may have been inflicted post mortem, and it is believed that Pablo died accidentally.
A graduate of Environmental Sciences from Madrid's Autonomous University, Pablo was in Peru to conduct research for his doctoral thesis. It seems that Pablo rented a hotel room in Pacal Guacamayo on April 10th for five days to conduct field research. On April 13th, he was seen for the last time leaving his hotel to observe an alligator colony not far from the jungle settlement.
His disappearance was reported by his post-graduate supervisor from Madrid, José Luis Rubio, after Pablo failed to turn up for a pre-arranged tutorial in Cuzco on April 23rd though the search operation did not begin until April 26th.
Pablo, who was born in Tres Cantos (Madrid), was initially identified from his passport, which was found on him, but has since been formally identified by his parents, who flew out to Peru last Monday.
