AN aeroplane carrying 106 passengers – including two babies – had to make an emergency landing last night in Alicante's El Altet airport when its engine caught fire.
The Boeing 738 had only just taken off when it was forced to land again at 20.54hrs.
Only one passenger was injured, after suffering a blow to the head during the near-perfect emergency touch-down.
The second the plane reached terra firma, practically every single passenger rang friends and family members on their mobiles to reassure them.
Guardia Civil officers and first aid staff rushed to the scene, but they were not needed to intervene.
The causes of the engine catching fire are not known.
