In an interview with EFETV, Crowe agreed that "there has always been a socialist aspect to the character of Robin Hood," but added that he didn't believe that "being rich necessarily makes you a bad person". "Some people reach the top because they work extremely hard," he went on, "and then there are, of course, people who've got lucky or taken advantage of others to get where they are. There's nothing straightforward about it".
The actor, a naturalised Australian, who won an Oscar for his role in "Gladiator", told the press that the new Robin Hood was unlike any of the others before him and that Ridley Scott's film was based far more "on history than on folklore". We are not going to see Crowe's version of the popular hero firing arrows or wearing tights, but rather a man who has just seen Richard the Lionheart killed in battle.
When asked if he was going to make any more films with Scott, whom he readily admits is his favourite director, Crowe told the press that Scott had "loads of projects on the go" but joked that "after making five films with me, he'll probably be glad to see the back of me".
