Scottish actor, Sean Connery, and his wife have cited "problems with their health and age" as reasons not to travel to Marbella (Málaga) to give evidence in court, after being charged with financial irregularities in a case alleged corruption within the town's urban planning department.
According to sources within the justice system, Connery sent a fax this week confirming that he was willing to cooperate with the judge and that he is aware of the charges against him.
By not appearing at court, it is highly probable that Connery will have prompted the judge to issue Rogatory Letters to a local judge to ensure that the case, now nicknamed "Goldfinger" in reference to the 1964 film that Connery starred in as British secret agent, James Bond, can be continued.
Dozens of journalists had gathered at the court house, hoping to catch a glimpse of the actor, who failed to show up.
Connery is being investigated for alleged fraud and money laundering in relation to a plot of land in Marbella, where his chalet "Malibu" used to stand, and where 72 luxury apartments have since been built.
