STAFF on the high-speed AVE trains are planning a strike to coincide with the weekend of the Fallas in Valencia – Saint Joseph's Day in the rest of the country – and over Easter and May bank holiday.
Around 2,700 people who provide customer service and work in the cafeterias on board the trains are expected to down tools on March 18 and 19, April 20 and 21, and May 1 and 2.
They are said to be protesting over the proposed privatisation of Spain's railway board, RENFE.
Although the strike will not affect the running of the trains, it comes right on top of a strike announced for the same dates by airline staff in protest over the privatisation of airport governing body AENA.
