Identified as Alan A., 48, the victim was knocked unconscious when a large stone hit him on the head during a heated discussion in the tourist resort town of Puerto del Carmen, according to local authorities.
He was taken to the Dr José Molina Orosa hospital in Arrecife, but died from his injuries in the early hours of the morning.
Police say Alan's female partner – it has not been revealed whether they were married – was involved in the fight – and it is thought that another lady who may also have been a girlfriend of his was involved.
The second lady has been arrested.
Guardia Civil officers say the fight broke out in the Los Fiscos apartment block in the town, but they do not know the cause at present.
