A FATHER-OF-THREE was shot dead whilst driving his children to school near the Marbella Hills estate early yesterday (Tuesday) morning.
National Police organised crime squad specialists say the victim, a French-born Algerian of around 30 years of age, was killed outright at the wheel of his car after three gunshots in quick succession fatally wounded him.
The children, aged 10, nine and three, witnessed the crime and needed emergency attention by child counsellors at the scene.
Officers were called out just before 09.00hrs by a passer-by who saw the horrific crime on the C/ Sierra de Cazorla on the Lomas de Marbella urbanisation, not far from the prestigious Marbella Hills Club.
They attempted to save the man but to no avail, and confirmed he had been killed outright by the shots fired.
It is believed to have been a drive-by shoot-out with the murderers opening fire as they overtook the victim in their car.
As yet, it is not thought any suspects have been arrested, but sources close to the tragedy claim police have already searched at least one villa in the area and may have viewed CCTV footage.
The deceased's wife is said to be pregnant, and although her husband was a 'discreet' man, the family was well-known in the area and often seen in neighbouring Puerto Banús.
Police have not revealed many details due to a legal gagging order imposed on the case, but they are thought to be attempting to ascertain whether the man's death was a settling of scores related to drugs.
