A 53-YEAR-OLD man has drowned off the Carvajal beach in Fuengirola, emergency services confirm.
They have not yet identified the victim, but say they were called out at around 14.40hrs yesterday (Wednesday) and rushed to the scene, but to no avail.
Several witnesses had seen the man getting into difficulties whilst swimming in the sea off the popular Costa del Sol beach, but he had already managed to pull himself ashore before paramedics got there.
However, he quickly lost consciousness and his heart and breathing stopped.
Doctors were unable to revive him, despite every effort.
