Huge clouds of black smoke filled the Vial Norte and the Paseo de la Victoria in Córdoba near the Ziryab music school when a local Aucorsa round-town bus burst into flames.
No passengers were on board as it was being towed into a repair workshop.
Originally bought from the Madrid Transport Services, the coach was a total burn-out.
But it had passed its ITV test – Spain's answer to an MOT – in June this year and was said to have been in a 'perfect condition', mechanically-speaking.
The workshop manager driving the coach to the garage at the time it went up in flames is said to be very shaken and unable to talk about the incident.
Six cars parked near the music school were damaged, and some have been written off.
