Pilot killed in light aircraft crash in Murcia
A 51-YEAR-OLD man has died after his light aircraft crashed near the San Javier air-strip near Cartagena (Murcia).

His plane fell out of the sky at exactly 20.31hrs last night (Friday) near the rubbish tip close to the RM-1 highway at exit 5.

Emergency services were called out by witnesses who saw flames go up from the site of the crash, but although firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene, they were unable to save the pilot, who had been killed instantly.

He had no passengers with him at the time.

The fire brigade cordoned off the area until they were able to put the flames out.

It is not known what the cause of the crash was.
