TICKETS for this summer's U2 concert in Barcelona will bear spectators' names to avoid resale scams in which unauthorised dealers bulk-buy entries from official sources and sell them on at inflated prices.
The Irish rockers will be on stage at the Olympic stadium on July 18 as part of their The Joshua Tree tour and, as their popularity means tickets are normally sold out within hours of the box office opening, the promoters want to make sure this is not because of overpriced resales.
According to Live Nation and Doctor Music: “Tickets will bear the name of the spectator – who may be a different person to the purchaser – and who will need to provide ID upon entering the concert venue.”
They stress that exhaustive checks will be made, and that any tickets bought through non-official channels will not be valid.
“These exceptional measures are being taken to protect fans, enabling them to make safe purchases and preventing speculation on the part of unauthorised third parties,” the promoters confirm.
U2 The Joshua Tree concert tickets for all venues worldwide will go on sale this coming Monday, January 16 in Europe, including the Republic of Ireland and the UK, and on Tuesday, January 17 in the USA and Canada, and will be in addition to early preferential sales of tickets for users registered on the official fan website, U2.com.
