Amnesty International's 'Race for Syria' supported by 3,800 athletes
20/02/2017
NEARLY 4,000 runners took part in a charity race in Madrid yesterday (Sunday) afternoon organised by Amnesty International to raise money for Syrians suffering the effects of the six-year civil war.
The event, titled Corre por Siria ('Run for Syria') was arranged with the help of Madrid city council to help refugees from the Middle Eastern country, as well as those still living there and facing the daily threat of violence.
It saw one of the biggest turn-outs for a fun-run Madrid has seen in recent times, with over 3,800 participants, each paying an entry fee which will go to Amnesty International for the cause.
The organisation said the huge support for the five-kilometre race showed the full extent of 'public compassion' for the people of Syria.
