Amazon Spain seeks 500 extra employees by the end of the year
21/02/2017
ONLINE sell-everything shop Amazon plans to take on 500 new staff in Spain this year on permanent, secure contracts, bringing its total payroll up to 1,500.
The company – which started out life as a book, CD and video store in the very early days of internet retailing, and has since expanded into clothing, food, cosmetics and all types of electronics – intends to increase its staff count in Europe as a whole to more than 15,000 this year, which will include expanding its team in Spain by 50% on its existing 1,000 workers.
A varied array of jobs are on offer, suitable for a wide cross-section of applicants, including software engineers and developers with solid experience through to those just starting out in the world of work who hope to train and build up a new career as they go along.
The positions would be at the Amazon group's central offices, including its technology and logistics bases in Madrid, and the headquarters in El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona province) currently under construction.
In addition to the permanent jobs due to be advertised, Amazon's different holdings including Amazon Marketplace, Amazon Web Services and Kindle Direct Publishing continue to generate thousands of jobs across Europe, since they allow people to set up their own businesses and trade using the multi-national platform.
Just five years after the Spanish version of the company, Amazon.es, was launched, the firm has expanded rapidly and continues to do so, says national director François Nuyts.
“We've managed to find extremely talented professionals in Spain, and will carry on employing and investing at an accelerated pace to allow us to keep on innovating in the name of our clients,” Nuyts says.
Operations manager for Spain and Italy at Amazon, Frend Pattje, says the recruitment process has already started, and hints that the salaries on offer are 'very competitive' and include 'other perks', such as private medical insurance.
Pattje reveals that the numerous small and medium-sized businesses in Spain which sell their wares via Amazon Marketplace have led to over 2,100 jobs being created.
