A FRESH warning about the dangers of playing near railway lines has been issued after a 14-year-old boy was electrocuted at a Tarragona province station.
The victim was killed instantly after touching the overhead line in Les Borges del Camp, having climbed on top of a stationary goods train, explains mayor Joaquim Calatayud.
He had been with four other boys of his age who were staying in the area for a few days and waiting for the train back to Barcelona.
No guards were around at the time because 'we can't have people everywhere', Calatayud stressed.
“I saw the kids there in the station; I went into town to get some cash out and when I returned I found the boy on the ground,” explains the mayor, who lives a few doors away from the station.
“I'm a father and my son is his age, so it's really affected me badly.”
