ATLÉTICO de Madrid forward Fernando Torres gave his team-mates a fright during last night's match against Deportivo La Coruña when he hit his head on the grass and was left lying unconscious.
Players from both sides panicked and ran to his aid, opening his mouth to stop him swallowing his tongue after Torres and Álex Bergantiños bashed into each other.
Paramedics rushed onto the pitch and took Torres straight to hospital.
Later last night (Thursday), some time after 23.00, Atlético sources confirmed the player had suffered severe concussion and would be kept in hospital in observation until at least today.
They reassured fans and fellow sportsmen that he was conscious and relatively compos mentis by then.
