Con-man leaves 13 luxury hotels without paying his bill
24/03/2017
A GUEST who sneaked out of 13 luxury hotels in Madrid without paying his bill has been arrested after being found in a 14th before he did the same.
Police seized five different credit cards he used for making his unpaid bookings, which totalled over €7,000.
Hotel workers, when they tried to take the money from the debit card number he had given, found there were no funds in the account.
The accused said it must have been a problem with the card readers or with his bank, and asked hotel number 14 if he could go to a cashpoint and settle up.
Police found he had never aroused suspicion, because he alwsys left the hotel empty-handed, with no luggage, and it was only later they found he had never returned.
As well as searching for him using the details given by the first 13 hotels, police warned all others in Madrid of his presence in case he tried to pull the same stunt.
All the credit and debit cards they confiscated had been cancelled by his bank.
