The gentleman, who will turn 89 this month, said he left his home in Fuenlabrada (Madrid) on Monday morning at around 08.00 in his car, intending to go to Toledo, to the south, to buy some wine.
He was found in Murcia, over 400 kilometres away in the south-east of the country, 24 hours later with no recollection of how he had got there.
But he had managed to reach Toledo and buy the wine, which was in his car – although he did not remember whether he had bought it in Toledo or elsewhere.
His wife, also in her 80s, and other family members had not reported him missing and did not know he had not been home overnight.
Aside from being completely disoriented, the elderly driver is said to be in good health.
Younger family members immediately set off to Murcia to pick him up.
