Second 'blue whale challenge' case uncovered in Spain
10/05/2017
A SECOND case of a teenager sucked into the dangerous 'blue whale challenge' has been found in Spain – this time in Palma de Mallorca.
Unlike the first incident detected – that of a 15-year-old girl in Catalunya – the youngster in question has not been admitted to a psychiatric ward and is still attending her high school.
Hers is said to be a 'very minor' case, whilst the teen in Catalunya had already gone beyond the halfway mark, where she was 'obliged' to carve a whale into the flesh on her arm.
As is always the case with dysfunctional behaviour in minors, however, authorities are assessing her family environment in accordance with standard procedure to ensure her wellbeing is not at risk.
If this is not the case, social services will offer support to her family if needed.
The 'blue whale' challenge, believed to have started in Russia before spreading to the former Soviet States and then Latin America, involves 50 tasks to be carried out over 50 days – starting with the very simple 'draw a whale on a piece of paper' and graduating towards 'watch horror films all night long'.
By around task 25, participants are expected to carve a whale into their arm, and task 50 is to attempt suicide.
They are required to film or photograph each stage of the challenge as 'proof'.
Numerous teenage suicides have been reported – and captured on camera by the youngsters themselves – as a result of this foolhardy series of dares.
The first case in Spain was uncovered two weeks ago, but fortunately, it is not thought to have gone viral in the country and as yet no teens are known to have attempted suicide in line with the 'game'.
