Lady driver on late-night metro shift reports 'groping and innuendo' by drunken male passengers
A FEMALE metro driver in Madrid has reported groups of drunken young men groping her and making tasteless chat-up lines and comments of a sexual nature when she is on the night shift.
The worst of these was at 06.20 on Sunday, reports the Madrid metro drivers' union, when she was on the 7B line between La Rambla and San Fernando de Henares.
A gang of inebriated young men pulled the emergency cord several times, forcing the train to stop.
When the driver got out and tried to solve the issue, she was subjected to innuendo and groping in what the union calls a 'deplorable situation' with 'sexist elements'.
The union is calling for 'greater security' on the underground, especially at night and in the early hours when violence and general disruption are more likely.
Its spokespersons particularly want additional safety features in place for major dates such as New Year's Eve, Christmas Eve and World Pride day.
