ACTOR Tom Cruise was mobbed by fans in Madrid and spent two hours signing autographs when he visited the Spanish capital yesterday (Monday) to present his new film, The mummy.
Accompanied by his co-stars Annabelle Wallis and Sofia Boutella and by the film's director Alex Kurtzman, the Hollywood legend best known for Cocktail and Vanilla Sky drew a dense crowd in the Plaza de Callao.
Cruise has not visited Spain in more than five years, when he travelled to the country to open a scientology centre, although many years earlier he was a regular visitor when he was in a relationship with his Vanilla Sky co-star, Spanish silver-screen sensation Penélope Cruz.
Ever since he presented the first film in the Mission Impossible series, Tom Cruise has always set aside a major chunk of his premières for greeting fans, posing with them for selfies and signing autographs.
He arrived at the Callao neighbourhood cinema at around 19.00 last night, and had not finished signing and posing until at least 21.00.
But he still had just enough time to visit Atlético de Madrid FC's new Wanda Metropolitano stadium, currently under construction.
Atlético chair Enrique Cerezo and midfielder Saúl Ñíguez gave Cruise the guided tour of the new football ground, which is expected to host its first match around mid-September.
