Brits who ploughed through pedestrians in Puerto Banús tested positive for cocaine and hash
31/05/2017
TWO Brits who caused multiple injuries in a car crash in Puerto Banús (Málaga province) had taken cocaine and cannabis before ploughing through a crowd of pedestrians, police reveal.
The driver and his passenger, both in their 20s, left at least 10 people badly injured on Sunday, three of whom remain in hospital.
A woman and a man are in a serious, but not life-threatening condition with multiple fractures, and one of the occupants of the runaway car is among those being treated at the Costa del Sol Hospital.
As yet, police have not been able to ascertain which of the two young men was driving.
Both had consumed alcohol, but at around or just below the legal limit, meaning they will not be charged for drink-driving.
Witnesses say a man of around 22 years old got into a fight at the well-known Ocean Club on the beach in Puerto Banús at around 09.00 on Sunday, and then left in a fury and 'clearly drunk'.
He got into an Audi and set off, driving erratically through Marbella and causing extreme panic among pedestrians, who feared a terrorist attack and leapt screaming from pavements.
He ran over three people on the pedestrianised part of the Avenida Lola Flores, and several others were hurt trying to get out of his way.
By the time the car, which was completely written off in a subsequent crash on the A-7 motorway, was found later that night, two people were inside it, suggesting the second man had been waiting in the Audi when the youth who left the club got into it.
