Tweet 'complaining' Pep Guardiola was not killed in Manchester bombing could land author in court
06/06/2017
A TWITTER user is facing criminal action after declaring online that it was a 'shame' Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola had not been killed in the recent terrorist attack.
Jorge Larios tweeted, shortly after the Ariana Grande concert bombing: “I've just heard there were 20 deaths in an attack in Manchester and that none of them is that son of a bitch Guardiola.”
The fact Guardiola is an ex-Barça FC manager means social network users in Catalunya have felt especially offended.
To add insult to their injury, Larios complained later on Twitter that 'not a single catalán got killed' in the Manchester Arena blast.
A lawyers' association, Drets ('rights') has filed action against Larios for incitement to hatred and violence against persons or groups based upon their national origin.
Drets says that 'under no circumstances' can the tweets posted by the user @ArmyLDH be considered 'simple insults' protected by the 'right to freedom of speech', stressing that posting these comments on a global internet platform was a way of 'seeking the maximum level of attention'.
Catalunya's military police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, are investigating and Larios may be arrested.
