ANOTHER cyclist has been killed by a drunk driver on the N-332 in Oliva (Valencia province), just five weeks after three triathletes from Jávea (Alicante province) lost their lives and two more were injured when they were mown down on the same highway.
This time, the culprit – a 25-year-old Dutch national in a BMW, who lives in nearby Ondara (Alicante province) – fled the scene, but was caught shortly afterwards by the Guardia Civil and taken to the police station in Gandia (Valencia province).
He tested positive for alcohol and drugs.
The two cyclists struck were out on an early-morning ride today (Sunday) when the Dutch driver ploughed into them at around 08.10.
One escaped unhurt, and the other was seriously injured and died minutes after the crash.
He is said to be the son of a retired Local Police officer from Senija, near Benissa (Alicante province) and was just 30 years old.
