The accused, named as David Grundy, 53, who has not been named, stabbed his wife, a 42-year-old British woman in the back and left her for dead with the knife still in her in their villa on the urbanisation Pinar de Campoamor.
She was found at 09.10 on Tuesday morning by the couple's daughter and was still alive, but in a critical condition and is now said to be 'serious but stable' in intensive care.
The would-be killer went on the run from the southern Alicante province expat belt, and was found at 03.30 this morning (Sunday) in the Rincón de Loix area of Benidorm, known locally as 'the English zone'.
He was immediately taken to the Guardia Civil in Pilar de la Horadada, just south of Orihuela Costa near the Murcia Region border, and is expected to stand before a judge on Monday where he may or may not be remanded in custody.
Residents in the Campoamor area say the accused earned a living doing gardens and airport runs.
