A TEENAGE girl has died after being crushed by a falling pillar inside a Mallorca guest house, emergency services report.
The 16-year-old had been staying at the Sa Fita hotel on the C/ Joan Riutort in the inland location of Esporles along with her family, and she and another youngster were on a hammock tied to the pillar which fell.
According to witnesses, the young woman, a Spanish national, was hit on the head by the column as it tipped over, but the other youth escaped unharmed.
She was already in cardiac arrest when emergency services reached the scene at around 16.30 today (Monday), and despite every effort, they were unable to restart her heart.
An inquiry has been launched into why the column came unstuck.
