Madrid metro drivers start five-day strike
27/06/2017
METRO drivers in Madrid will start their five-day strike tomorrow (Wednesday) at 13.00 to coincide with the World Pride festival taking place in the capital.
They are obliged under labour laws to provide at least 'minimum services', and in the case of the underground train network, this means two-thirds of connections will be running.
Thursday (June 29), Friday and the weekend will see the strike start at 06.00 and will continue until the rail service goes off for the night.
This is normally around 01.00, although the metro was supposed to be running 24 hours a day for the festival.
'Minimum services' for Saturday, July 1, when the main Pride march takes place, will mean 75% of trains running.
The metro company will announce via all means available – through its website, customer service centre, megaphones and posters in stations – the exact times when the strike will affect transport.
