ACTOR Robert de Niro has opened his first European hotel on the island of Ibiza, part of a chain he owns alongside Japanese celebrity chef Nobu Matsushisha.
The Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay, whose major shareholders include London Bridge, Marbella Club and Puente Romano, is a five-star resort on the beach in Talamaca with 152 rooms and 11 suites.
Described as a 'relaxing and luxury lifestyle' premises, the Nobu Ibiza Bay has a yoga hall, gym, bar, manicure and pedicure centres, beach and indoor cabins, terraces, Ibiza's first-ever Six Senses Spa, and four restaurants.
Robert de Niro's first hotel was opened in 2013 as part of the Caesar's Palace complex in Las Vegas, and subsequent resorts have been opened in Malibu and Miami before heading outside US borders to Manila (The Philippines), Riyadh (the Saudi Arabian capital), and plans are on the table for future openings in London, Chicago and Bahrain.
Nobu Matsushisha opened his first restaurant in 2008 and currently has 32 eateries in 28 cities around the world, including the one in the Ibiza hotel.
Also within the Ibiza hotel are the 'relaxed and informal' diner Chambao, the Mexican restaurant Peyote, and a 'healthy eating' café specialising in gluten-free dishes, Celicioso.
The Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay is the creation of Spanish interior design firm Proffetional, which was given an €8 million budget for the project, and which has also designed the insides of hotels in the Meliá International chain and its brands ME and Innside, as well as other global hotel firms such as Four Seasons, Hilton and Marriott.
