The breakdown in the overhead cables is halfway between the stations of Àngel Guimerà – linked to Lines 1, 3 and 5 – and Túria, midway between the city centre and La Fe hospital, on Line 1.
In theory, the airport connection – Line 3 and Line 5, which run directly to the terminal from the Xàtiva stop outside Valencia's main national railway station – should not be held up, but some delays are likely because of having to cross through Àngel Guimerà en route.
Meanwhile, connections between the stations Empalme and València Sud, and Bailén and València Sud have been suspended.
With three entire lines down, thousands of commuters, tourists and leisure travellers have been affected.
As at noon today (Thursday), the Valencian regional rail board, FGV, said it was working hard to restore the connections, but expected further delays.
Anyone planning to travel to or via Valencia city today should allow plenty of extra time for their journey in case they need to use buses or taxis for part of their route.
