Heatwave to return this weekend

Heatwave to return this weekend
ANOTHER heatwave is set to hit the south of mainland Spain and storms and rain will strike the north, according to the State meteorological agency, AEMET.

Aragón, Catalunya and Navarra will be on 'yellow alert' over the weekend for downpours, thunder and lightning, whilst in the southern half of the country, the mercury will soar to between 35ºC and 40ºC progressively through Saturday to Sunday.

Light rain may fall on the coasts of Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia in the far north.

Meanwhile, the Basque Country and, at the opposite end of the peninsula, Andalucía will see tropical, sweltering nights with lows of around 25ºC.

Temperatures are expected to remain stable elsewhere in the country, but a knock-on effect from the south could bring hotter climes to the centre and east of Spain.
