AN INFERNO at Barcelona's Tomorrowland Festival forced 22,000 spectators to flee the park late last night (Saturday).
The blaze started in the main stage area, possibly due to a 'technical fault', firefighters say.
At least 11 fire engines were brought in along with the Civil Protection squad, and all revellers at the site in the Can Zam park in Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelona province) – a total of 22,143 – were evacuated immediately.
Nobody was injured by the fire or smoke, although 20 people suffered minor cuts and bruises during the crush to exit the festival zone and a few others were treated for panic attacks.
The fire was put out by around 23.20 last night, but the festival has had to be called off altogether as the main stage is now structurally unsound.
This morning (Sunday), firefighters were seen dismantling the festival ground and scrutinising the charred remains to ascertain the exact cause of the blaze.
