Ourense and Jaén fires threaten homes
AN INFERNO in the Galicia province of Ourense has already wiped out nearly 3,000 acres after less than 24 hours and continues to burn out of control.

Meanwhile, another blaze in the province of Jaén in the southern region of Andalucía has led to 270 people being evacuated.

At present, the Galicia fire (pictured), close to the town of Verín, is very near to a residential area, but as yet no residents are thought to be in danger.

It started at 16.30 in the parish of Vilamaior de Val yesterday (Thursday) and spread rapidly, reaching the next borough by 23.00.

The A-52 motorway has also had to be shut.

At the opposite end of the country, residents in Segura de la Sierra (Jaén province) have had to spend the night in a sports hall with emergency beds set up.

A blaze declared last night at around 20.30 has led to the A-317-A regional highway and the provincial trunk roads, the JV-7032, the JF-7038 and the JF-7039 being closed.
