KING Felipe VI's annual Christmas Eve speech once again included a covert appeal to secessionist politicians, as well as raising concerns about young adults' struggle to afford housing and violence against women.
Civil servant fired after not going to work for 10 years
06/08/2017
A CIVIL servant at Valencia provincial council has been fired after not having gone to work for 10 years – since the day he was taken on.
Carles Recio joined the Diputación de Valencia in 2006 in the archiving research department, but has never had a desk, computer or any known function.
His salary was around €50,000 a year.
The archive manager María José Gil, has also been hit with disciplinary action, although as yet no firm decision has been made about her fate.
She is said to have known about and agreed to Recio's 10-year absence, but it appears she will not be fired, only sanctioned in a format that has not yet been revealed.
Recio had been taken on during the reign of Diputación president Fernando Giner, of the right-wing PP party.
The serial absentee is currently signed off sick, but given that his decade of not going to work is not thought to relate to illness, his present situation does not prevent his being fired.
