Tourists and coach driver in on-street punch-up in Ibiza
15/08/2017
A FIST-FIGHT in broad daylight between a young couple and a coach driver had witnesses watching in horror and has been condemned by the Balearic Island regional government.
Video footage taken by an amused passenger – uploaded onto YouTube by user 'Life of Rye' and titled Ibiza fight – Wedgie! - shows a man and woman apparently in their 20s on the ground with a middle-aged Alsa bus driver in a full-out brawl as other travellers attempt to break them up.
Numerous pedestrians in Sant Antoni de Portmany (San Antonio), Ibiza watched with reactions ranging from terror to disgust to amusement.
Ibiza island council says the Alsa coach was not operating a public bus service at the time, but had been chartered, probably by a tour operator or an excursion company.
What provoked the punch-up is unclear, but from the island authorities' comments, it appears the young couple started it by attacking the driver.
The council has slammed the 'aggression the Alsa worker suffered' and stressed its wholehearted 'revulsion' at 'this type of behaviour'.
It is thought the couple involved may have been British.
