BENICÀSSIM'S world-famous Rototom Sunsplash Festival has been called off for all of today and tonight (Wednesday) after a tourist drowned yesterday off the beach where the event takes place.
A 22-year-old attending the festival at the Heliópolis beach was found unconscious in the sea at 18.00 last night and, upon investigation, had already drowned.
It is thought the young man had not known how to swim.
Festival organisers posted messages on social media explaining all acts would be cancelled until Thursday 'as a sign of respect', and offering its condolences to the deceased's family and friends.
Shows that still went ahead last night all included a mention of the victim.
Today so far, shows by Sweet Sound of Soul and Badalonians Sound at 13.00 and 14.00 respectively, an African dance class by the Thioune brothers at 17.30 and a concert by Resident Crew at 18.30 have been called off.
