A VAN ploughed into pedestrians in the early hours of this morning (Friday) in the centre of Cambrils, a tourist hotspot on the coast of the province of Tarragona, leaving six injured of whom one was said to be critical.
The latter, a woman, has since died in hospital.
Police managed to avert an even greater tragedy in an attack that has been confirmed as terrorism and linked to yesterday's massacre in Barcelona by opening fire on the terror suspects.
Four were shot dead immediately and a fifth was injured, but died later in a prison cell for reasons 'not related' to his bullet wounds, officers say.
The Cambrils attack came less than five hours after the Barcelona tragedy which led to 13 deaths and over 100 injured.
