The Guggenheim museum in Bilbao has posted record visitor numbers in July and August with 322,247 people coming through the doors - 6,891 more than over the same period last year.
According to their press release, 76% of all visitors came from overseas, a 2% rise on the figures for 2016. French visitors made up the biggest group of overseas visitors (22% of the total), followed by Italians (8%), Britons (7%), Germans (6%) and Dutch (6%).
Furthermore, this June was their best June on record with 105.517 visitors, making a total of 427,764 visitors over the past three months.
The year on year figures are also very positive, with 814,670 visitors going through the museum's doors between January 1st and the end of August, which equates to a 4% increase on the same period in 2016, and an 8% increase on 2015 figures.
The museum's busiest day this summer was Saturday August 5th, when 8,265 visitors flocked through the doors. The daily average number of visitors this year has been 5,197, 135 more than last year's average.
