Debate over banning short-distance flights takes off, but the cons outweigh the pros
Falling temperatures and rain across south-east and north
16/09/2017
DRAMATIC drops in temperature in time for the weekend are expected to be accompanied by more rain and thunder storms, especially in the Balearics and the south-east of the mainland.
Yesterday's (Friday's) downpours with thunder and lightning in the east were mostly absent, with the Mediterranean coast suffering moderately-heavy rain, but not torrential.
However, after highs fell from around 33ºC to 20ºC overnight in the province of Alicante and from 35ºC to 29ºC in Málaga, a slight rise is expected today (Saturday) and tomorrow.
From 30ºC on Thursday in the province of Jaén and 28ºC in Albacete, the mercury is expected to plunge over the weekend to 26ºC and 22ºC.
Showers across Andalucía – especially the province of Almería – as well as the Balearics, Murcia and the provinces of Alicante and Albacete could develop into localised heavy downpours and flash floods, according to the State meteorological agency, AEMET.
The same is forecast for the western coast of the Cantabrian Sea, including the far north of Galicia, and also in the north-west of Navarra.
Occasional showers and possible storms later today and tomorrow morning are likely in the Pyrénées and eastern Catalunya, and snow is expected to fall at altitudes above 1,800 to 2,200 metres above sea level.
Sunday and Monday show temperatures rising by around 5ºC, to around 27ºC on the east and south coasts and the Balearics, with cloudless skies, and autumn weather will not start to creep in for at least another week.
