Catalunya 'IndyRef': Man shot in eye discharged from hospital
A MAN shot in the eye with a rubber bullet by police during Catalunya's 'banned' referendum has been discharged from hospital after undergoing surgery, and a pensioner who suffered a heart attack when officers raided a polling station is said to be in a stable condition.

Reports worldwide erroneously claimed that a 20-year-old man had lost an eye after police shot him, but according to Barcelona's Sant Pau Hospital (pictured), the patient is 38 and surgeons managed to save his eye, although it is not known whether his sight will be affected long-term or permanently.

He is due to return for a check-up shortly.

The other man, aged 70, remains in Barcelona's Vall d'Hebrón Hospital and is said to be out of danger.

He collapsed at a polling station in the city's Lleida neighbourhood and was found to be in cardiac arrest, but bystanders and paramedics managed to restart his pulse.

These two men were the only ones of the 893 injured in the raids who had to be admitted to hospital, although others were taken to A&E, treated and later discharged.

Most suffered cuts, bruises and panic attacks, but no broken bones have as yet been reported.
