Inditex's Pablo Isla wins Best CEO of the Year
24/10/2017
INDITEX boss Pablo Isla has been named World's Best CEO in Harvard Business Review – one of two Spaniards in the top 10.
The chief executive of Spain's most international clothing chain, which includes the global budget label Zara, has been at the helm of the Galicia-based empire for 12 years.
Isla has been in the top three for the last two years, but this is the first time he has soared to first place in the CEO rankings.
Harvard Business Review highlighted Isla's 'financial efforts' at Inditex, plus his corporate social responsibility policies, particularly concerning the environment and sustainability.
Upon hearing the news of his nomination, Isla said the award was 'not an individual one', but was a fitting tribute to 'everyone who forms part of the Inditex family' and their 'daily efforts and hard work'.
“Without any shadow of a doubt, we should consider this a shared prize won by the entire Inditex team,” Isla states.
Second in the Harvard Business Review Best CEO of the Year ranking is Martin Sorrell of the British company WPP, and Jensen Huang from the US-based firm Nvidia.
Another Spaniard has made it into the top 10 – Florentino Pérez, chairman of ACS.
