A SICILIAN mafia 'godfather' who had been on the run for 20 years was captured in Madrid thanks to a photo on Google Maps, police say.
The blaze broke out on the C/ Zaragoza on Wednesday morning at around 09.50, leaving 18 people with injuries or smoke inhalation and having to be treated for shock and panic attacks.
Three floors of the nine-storey block were destroyed and flames were seen billowing out of windows and doors.
A man aged 93 has died and another aged 18 is fighting for his life in Barcelona's Vall d'Hebrón hospital, emergency services say.
All the other injured parties have since been discharged.
As yet, the cause of the inferno has not been confirmed.
Many residents in the apartment building were confined to their homes whilst firefighters put out the flames, but all occupants have since been evacuated as there is no electricity or water and the structure is thought to be seriously damaged.
Barcelona city council has sent out surveyors to find out whether the block is safe to live in.
Social services have intervened, and so far six families – a total of 22 people – have been given alternative accommodation.
As well as paramedics and police, 15 fire engines attended the scene.
