Debate over banning short-distance flights takes off, but the cons outweigh the pros
Rain, thunder and tidal surges across Spain this weekend
04/11/2017
FORCE seven gales and waves of up to three metres (9'9”) off the coasts of Almería and Murcia have been reported and are expected to continue over the weekend, whilst torrential rain and thunder storms are forecast for the next two days in nine other provinces.
According to the State meteorological agency, AEMET, the sea level in Menorca is expected to rise by 70 centimetres (2'4”) which could give rise to tidal surges, and here, as well as Mallorca, could see downpours, thunder and lightning.
Storms are also expected to stay put over the weekend in Aragón, except the province of Teruel, plus Catalunya, except the province of Lleida, the region of Asturias, and the province of Cádiz on the south coast.
Practically the whole of the mainland is likely to suffer a wet weekend, with the exception of a few small pockets of the Mediterranean, including the Comunidad Valenciana, parts of the Balearics and the far south-east.
Only light rain, but otherwise clear skies are forecast in the northern half of the Canary Islands.
Temperatures in general are likely to be lower today (Saturday) and continue dropping tomorrow, with a noticeable chill factor inland, although the mercury may rise slightly in the Balearics.
