30/11/2017
A Spanish researcher has been found dead in the New York hospital where he worked.
40-year-old Miguel Crespo, originally from Toledo, was found dead last Sunday in a bathroom in his workplace - the Weill Cornell medical centre in New York City.
Crespo had worked as a stem cell researcher at the laboratory since 2011, helping to create drugs to treat colon cancer.
His body was found by police officers in a bathroom on the 8th floor of the hospital and showed no signs of violence, suggesting that he was a victim of sudden cardiac death.
Members of his family have flown over to New York to organise the repatriation of the body back to Spain.
The researcher was in the final phase of his study and about to submit the project he had been working on.
Weill Cornell's spokesperson, Sarah Smith, expressed the medical centre's deep regret over Miguel Crespo's death and offered its "most sincere condolences to his family and friends".
