AT LEAST 30 lorries parked near the AP-7 motorway through the province of Barcelona had their tyres slashed in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday) for reasons that have not been clarified – five days after another 13 HGVs were found in the same place and situation.
All those affected had been parked in a southbound direction between the towns of Montmeló and Sant Cugat del Vallès.
Catalunya's regional police force, the Mossos d'Esquadra, have launched a probe into the motive and possible offenders, but as yet are baffled by the spate of attacks on delivery vehicles.
Some of the lorries were being driven at the time, and others were stationed, when their drivers reported flat tyres at about 03.00.
This led to an entire lane of the AP-7 motorway being closed off between Cerdanyola and Sant Cugat, with five vehicles stuck on the highway and another five on the hard shoulder.
On Friday, a van and 13 lorries in roughly the same spot were similarly affected, although at the time it was thought that an HGV may have lost its load, scattering it across the tarmac, since numerous metal shards and nails were found.
But the fact it has happened again on such a large scale and the only vehicles affected are lorries have led police to suspect foul play.
